Midget select in final tournament

Photo/BRIAN LOCKHART The Orangeville Bengals Midget select team are done for the season after taking part in the York Simcoe Baseball Association playoff tournament over the weekend.

The double elimination style tournament had five teams playing off to earn the right to advance to the provincials in Thorold, Ontario on August 28.

Game one was played under the lights at Princess of Wales Park in Orangeville with the Bengals taking on Barrie.

The Orangeville boys lost their second game on Saturday to Georgina and were eliminated from the tournament

The Bengals had a good performance despite losing both of their games.

The squad has mostly 15 year-old players and were going up against a strong contingent of mostly older players on the other teams.

The Barrie team advanced to the final after defeating Aurora 3-1 in game seven.

Collingwood advanced after winning 8-5 over Barrie in game two and winning their second game 4-2 over Aurora.

The Collingwood team had a strong season winning first place in the division with a solid 10-2-2 record.

The final game on Sunday turned out to be a squeeker with Collingwood taking the win 6-5 over the Barrie squad.
