Mono preparing for ‘Big Day Out’

Saturday, September 18 is being billed as Mono’s Big Day Out, and it appears that that is exactly what it will be.

Billed as a “Community Celebration for the residents of Mono by the residents of Mono,” activities will run from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. in “Downtown Mono Centre.”

Activities will include a lunch featuring local produce, fresh baked pies by members of Camilla Women’s Institute, and other desserts by Virginia Ridpath, Mrs. Mitchell’s, Black Birch, The Globe and Hockley General Store.

Other features of the day include Mono Mini Farmers’ Market, Mono Farm Exhibit, Mono Music (featuring local musicians), talks on Local Lore at Burns Church, Dufferin Circle of Storytellers, a morning hike in Mono Cliffs Park, a baseball game, botanical walks and a tai chi demonstration.

There’ll also be a display of art by Mono’s youngest citizens, created on September 12 and framed, as well as numerous games for children, along with miniature horses.

Another feature will be a Mono Candidates Soap Box, where candidates for next month’s municipal elections will be get up “to sing, dance, recite or pontificate.”

By reservation, you can also come back at 6:30 for a prix fixe roast beef dinner hosted by Mono Cliffs Inn.

The event will run rain or shine.
