“Anyone involved in historic preservation and restoration recognizes that most such individuals are an anathema to Heritage Preservation. They generally have no interest in same, no knowledge of architectural and construction techniques of the 19th century and reference the current building code and specifically Part 11 in the same way that various religious groups interpret the Bible.

“If you consider the building code, then, in theory every building built before 1870 or perhaps 1970 or even more recently should have collapsed long ago.”

He says the Stanton is structurally sound, and can be fully restored with authenticity.

The issue is likely to be aired at county council on Feb. 9.
