Undercover Boss has local connection
A recent episode of the CBS hit realty show Undercover Boss features a landscape company with Orangeville roots.
The Dwyer Group, in partnership with Sunshine Brands, founded The Grounds Guys in the United States in 2010.
Ten brothers who by working together discovered they had green thumbs founded Sunshine in Caledon in 1989. The family grew their landscape business from the ground up. Their agreement with The Dwyer Group enabled them to take advantage of the growth of their business in the U.S. market under the name The Grounds Guys.
This episode featured Dina Dwyer-Owens, Chairwoman and CEO if The Dwyer Group. Each episode depicts someone in a top management position at a major business dressing down and getting their hands dirty, starting in an entry level position to discover faults in the company.
The Dwyer Group is based in Waco, Texas. It is a holding company of seven franchise businesses, including Aire Serv, Glass Doctor, The Grounds Guys, Mr. Appliance, Mr. Electric, Mr. Rooter and Rainbow International. In this episode of Undercover Boss, Ms. Dwyer- Owens worked with representatives from Mr. Appliance, Mr. Electric, Mr. Rooter and The Ground Guys. According to a release, this experience enabled Ms. Dwyer-Owens to fulfill a long-held dream of riding in service vans out in the field. She put on the uniform of a potential trainee and worked for service brands in a mostly male industry.
